MiUI Minute: Issue 43
October 27, 2026
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new unemployment tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI is being launched in two parts, with Tax functions now live, and Benefits functions scheduled to be available November 9.
In this issue of the MiUI Minute, third-party administrators (TPAs) are being asked to urge employers they work with to initiate their own MiUI account. Find past editions of the MiUI Minute at MiUI University.
TPAs: Urge Your Clients to Initiate their MiUI Unemployment Account
With the launch of MiUI for Benefits around the corner, it is critical that all the employers you represent have initiated their own MiUI accounts. They must set up an account in MiUI to be able to protest or appeal benefits claims and assign the proper roles to their TPA. Both you and the employers you work with must have individual MiUI accounts.
UIA has created this helpful Communication Resource package you can use to reach out to your clients. In the package, you'll find two important items:
- An Employer Letter that includes important information about MiUI to orient employer clients to the new system. It also has the most critical information employers need to initiate their accounts.
- A TPA Assignment Form Letter you can customize for each client. This will assist them in assigning the correct MiUI roles to you.
You can stress, too, that employers must retrieve from MiWAM their MiUI Activation Code by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 2 to be able to initiate their MiUI account before MiWAM shuts down permanently at that time.
If you are going to perform a benefit role on behalf of your client, make sure the employer assigns those roles (Edit Benefits Charges and Claims Forms Mailing) to you.
Click the button below and then scroll down the page to find Communication Resources for TPAs (see image below). Select Learn more in our template instructions for a step-by-step guide on how to use the email template to reach out to the employer(s) you represent.

MiUI is an employer-driven system. Employers and you both must have accounts in MiUI for a seamless unemployment experience today and in the future.
Be Prepared for the Downtime Period
A Downtime Period is a scheduled during which MiWAM and MiUI will be unavailable. This period will accommodate the full transition to MiUI. During this time, the Office of Employer Ombudsman and Customer Service phone lines, as well as UIA Local Offices will be unavailable while the system update is made. UIA’s website at Michigan.gov/UIA and its chatbot will be available to provide information on general unemployment questions.
The Downtime Period starts at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 2 (after which point MiWAM will be permanently offline), and extend through 8 a.m. Monday, November 9. MiUI will be available for all tax and benefits functions on Monday morning, November 9.
Where to find more information
