From the Army to a Registered Apprenticeship Program
September 16, 2025
After six years of dedicated service in the U.S. Army, Julien was ready for a new mission: building a stable future for his family. He knew the skilled trades offered a promising path, and he found the perfect partner in Helmets to Hardhats (H2H).
Julien learned about H2H at his base education center and was immediately drawn to the opportunity to secure a career with great pay and benefits. The Army had already instilled in him a strong work ethic, discipline and a knack for teamwork—all skills that are highly valued in the trades. With the help of H2H, he quickly connected with local unions and entered a Registered Apprenticeship with Insulators Union Local 324.
Today, Julien is a proud member of the union and a skilled HVAC Technician, using his military discipline and new-found trade skills to excel in his job. His success is a testament to the fact military experience provides a solid foundation for a successful career in the skilled trades.
"Make the most of your GI Bill benefits,” Julien suggests to other service members. “After serving your country, invest in yourself, learn valuable trade skills and earn while you do it."
Julien's story is an inspiring example of how veterans can successfully transition their military experience into a fulfilling civilian career. His journey highlights the power of programs like Helmets to Hardhats in connecting veterans with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
