Michigan needs to revise Regulation 633, Regulation 636, and Act 451, Part 83, Pesticide Control. Review the Certification & Training Rule Changes and How They Affect Michigan to learn what is changing. Review the Regulation 633 & 636 Scoping Document to learn what changes are occurring with revising Regulation 633 (Restricted Use Pesticides) and Regulation 636 (Pesticide Applicators).

Updating Michigan’s pesticide law will happen over the next several years. MDARD is preparing to amend Regulation 633 and 636 over the next several months. Changes are estimated to go into effect in June 2027. Act 451 revisions will require legislative action and are anticipated to begin in 2028. Timelines are subject to change.

- Certified (private and commercial) and registered applicators may need to take a specific course to recertify. Additional information about specific category courses will be provided once rulemaking is completed.
- Some category revisions will require an applicator to take an exam.
- Certified private applicators who directly supervise noncertified applicators will have additional responsibilities.
- Commercially certified applicators who apply RUPs will have additional recordkeeping requirements.
- Noncertified applicators will require training.
- Applicators who renew by credits will need the seminar host to verify their identity. RUP Dealers will have additional recordkeeping requirements.
