  • Checking Food Businesses: Inspecting food facilities to make sure they handle allergens safely.
  • Reviewing Labels: Making sure food packages clearly list ingredients.
  • Testing Food: Collecting food samples to analyze for unlisted allergens.
  • Investigating Concerns: Looking into consumer complaints about allergic reactions or mislabeling.
  • Removing Hazards: Issuing public warnings and pulling unsafe food from the food supply.

How to Report a Food Allergen Concern

If you or a family member are experiencing a severe allergic reaction or medical emergency, please call 911. If you suspect a packaged food product is mislabeled, contains undeclared allergens, or caused an allergic reaction, please contact the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development:
