Platte River State Fish Hatchery & Weir
Open at no charge to the public. Grounds are open every day from dawn to dusk and hatchery buildings from 8 am to 4 pm. To schedule group tours, please call 231-325-4611.
This facility was established in 1928 and converted to the state's primary salmon hatchery in 1972. Platte River State Fish Hatchery is the birthplace of the Great Lakes salmon program. It is also the main egg collection site for coho salmon in the upper Great Lakes and produces the following species:
- Coho salmon
- Chinook salmon
- Atlantic salmon
- Walleye
