Dark Sky Night at Negwegon State Park
Join the Friends of Negwegon State Park, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and with support from the Besser Museum, for an evening of astronomy, stargazing, and dark sky education along the Lake Huron shoreline. The program will feature presentations by experienced astronomy educators, telescope viewing, guided constellation and laser sky tours, and discussions about light pollution, dark sky preservation, and astronomy opportunities in Northeast Michigan. Family-friendly educational activities and a bonfire on the beach will also be offered. Weather permitting, participants may have opportunities to observe Saturn, Venus, the crescent moon, Perseid meteor activity, constellations, and other deep sky objects.
Event goers should register online. During the registration process, the event organizers can be informed of any accessibility issues and attempt to accommodate them. The event area is accessed via approximately 80 yards of gravel path followed by 80 yards of sandy dune trail. This is a family friendly event. Please bring a camp chair or blanket for seating, dress warmly for cooler evening temperatures along Lake Huron, and consider bringing a flashlight with a red lens to help preserve night vision. Bug repellent is recommended. Most importantly, bring your curiosity and enjoy an evening under the stars!
Participants should register for the event and claim their free tickets at the link provided by the Friends of Negwegon State Park: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/night-sky-at-negwegon
