Ionia Recreation Area Hiking Trail - Enchanted Borealis

Join us for a unique night hike with a festive holiday feel! Meander along one of our hiking trails illuminated by lanterns and enjoy colorful holiday lights along the way.

After your hike, spend time with family and friends around a lakeside campfire while enjoying marshmallows or hot dogs. Guests must provide their own food and roasting supplies. Ten private fire pits will also be available for an additional fee.

The Enchanted Borealis event will take place from 5:30–8:30 p.m. on December 10, 11 and 12. Registration is required.

This event is a fundraiser supporting future park improvement projects and supplies for our Explorer Guide programs.

Please note: The campground area will only be accessible to guests who have reserved a private fire pit. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather. The trails pass through low-lying, uneven terrain, and some areas may have puddled water. All campfires will be extinguished at the conclusion of the event at 8:30 p.m.

In the event of a cancellation, registered participants who provide an email address will be notified by email. Those without an email address will be contacted by phone. A cancellation notice will also be posted at the Point parking lot.
