Fireworks-Free Fourth of July

The DNR and the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency work together to highlight quieter camping options over the Fourth of July. The idea came to the DNR from a veteran whose own combat experience helped him understand how fireworks and other loud noises could stir up past memories. Visit the MichiganVeterans.com to learn about resources, services and benefits for veterans and their families.

Veterans, pet owners and other visitors can find camping options situated in campground locations that are farther away from traditional fireworks displays.

Aerial fireworks such as Roman candles and bottle rockets are not banned in Michigan state parks at all times; however, smaller novelty fireworks such as fountains, sparklers and ground spinners are still permitted. We ask all campers to abide by these regulations to help us accomplish our goal of providing an honorable and comfortable setting for our veterans and other campers.

Camping reservations can be made up to six months in advance. To make a reservation, visit MiDNRReservations.com or call 1-800-44PARKS (1-800-447-2757).
