Bear preference point system

Hunters are selected for bear licenses using a preference point drawing system created in 2000. License applicants who are not selected receive a preference point for future drawings. Applicants with the greatest number of preference points in each hunt period are selected before those with fewer points. An applicant's points are reset to zero when selected for a license.

Nonresidents may receive up to 5% of the licenses available in each hunt period.

IMPORTANT: Applicants must apply at least once every 5 years to retain their points. Points expire for individuals who do not apply for 5 consecutive years.
