Approximately 20% of the raw material used by Michigan's forest products industry comes from sustainably-managed state forest lands. 

Commercial timber sales

Purchasers of DNR timber are required to maintain certification as defined by the Michigan Sustainable Forestry Initiative or the Wisconsin Forest Industry Safety and Training Alliance.

Updated timber cruising methods

The Michigan DNR implemented new timber cruising methods for timber sale preparation and contracting in fall 2020. Training sessions are available in the cruise methods and will be required for all DNR-certified timber sale preparation contractors.
