Ski Lift Construction Exhibits Checklist

Check Y if included with the Application; Check N if not included or does not apply (attach an explanation in place of exhibit)

PHASE ONE - If Phase One is completed and approved, a Phase One permit will be issued allowing foundations to be poured. Items in Phase Two must be completed and approved prior to issuing further construction permits.

EXHIBIT 2 - MAP:
    Map Showing Location of Lift on Ski Area
EXHIBIT 3 - PLAN SHEET WHICH REFLECTS:
    A. Electric Power Lines and Poles
    B. Roads, Structures, Rock Piles or Outcrops, Waterways, Gullies and any buried installations
    C. Contours at two foot (2) intervals should be shown from 25 feet right to 25 feet left of the lift centerline. An attempt should be made to outline man-made fill areas
EXHIBIT 4 - PROFILE SHEET WHICH REFLECTS:
    A. Terminal and Tower Locations
    B. Top of concrete for footings
    C. Tower height and cable elevation
EXHIBIT 5 - FOUNDATIONS: (If more than one tower, label exhibits 5.1, 5.2, etc. The footing design sheets should be arranged starting at the lower terminal and proceeding to the upper terminal)
    A. Foundation design for each footing
    B. Any footing design which does not apply to the ski lift must be clearly outlined and voided.
    C. The footing design sheet should show the size and shape, a reference to the lift centerline, top of concrete, strength, steel and anchor bolt placement
    D. Submit soil reports; soil information notes shown on plans should reflect actual conditions of the site. The designer shall not design footings to rest on "undisturbed soil". If this notation is used, the wording should be "undisturbed sound earth", as footings will not be accepted which would be poured on peat or muck, topsoil, loosely compacted fills or wash conditions. If the designer calls for neat line pours using the soils as forms, show the feasibility of this design in relation to the soil conditions at the site.
PHASE TWO - If Phase Two is completed and approved, a Phase Two permit to allow the machinery construction will be issued.
EXHIBIT 6 - DRIVE TERMINAL:

    Detailed drawings which show the structural design of the drive terminal, the motor, gear box, safety devices, brakes, bullwheel and grounding of the drive terminal and haul rope. Include drawings which are necessary to show the correct assembly of all components. Auxiliary power locations and method of coupling must also be shown
EXHIBIT 7 - RETURN TERMINAL:
    Detailed drawings which show the structural design of the return terminal, safety devices, bullwheel assembly, sheave location and size and grounding of the terminal and haul rope
EXHIBIT 8 - BRAKES AND STOPS:
    A. Type, manufacturer, size and location of service brake and emergency brake
    B. Anti-backup device type, size and location
    C. Manufacturer and type of derail switch
EXHIBIT 9 - TENSION SYSTEM
    A drawing showing location and details of the tensioning system, including size, shape and weight of the counterweight or cylinders, size of sheaves, safety devices and detailed drawings of all connections; include counterweight rope and backstay cable information
EXHIBIT 10 - TOWERS
    Drawings showing the length, diameter, base plate, gussets, grouting, tower arms, ladders, guards and proposed grounding
EXHIBIT 11 - SHEAVE CAPACITY AND ARRANGEMENTS
    Drawings showing all sheave arrangements including type of liner to be used. Sheave arrangements shown but not used should be clearly outlined and voided. At each tower, the uphill and downhill load should be shown, the allowable sheave design load and the proposed number of sheaves at each location.
PHASE THREE - Phase Three must be completed and approved before the final construction permit will be issued and scheduling of load test and final inspection
EXHIBIT 12 - GRIP, HANGER AND CARRIER:

    Detailed drawings of the grip, hanger and carrier which will be used on the lift. If any of these are of new or altered design, engineering information should be transmitted which shows they meet the criteria of the ANSI Standards B77.1-1990.
EXHIBIT 13 - LOADING AND UNLOADING AREA LAYOUT:
    A detailed drawing showing the grade. length, width of the areas, haul line cable elevation, details of platform ramps, and stairs, noting any nearby obstacles.
EXHIBIT 14 - ELECTRICAL DIAGRAM:
    A detailed drawing showing the proposed electrical layout and communication systems.
EXHIBIT 15 - LIGHTING:
    Drawing showing the proposed lighting for the ski lift. Documentation must be included to confirm that the design engineer has considered and approved the additional loads imposed on the lift, mounting, location of lights, and compliance with ANSI and NEC.
EXHIBIT 16 - COMMUNICATION:
    Drawing or description of proposed communication system for the ski lift, including type of device and location of each.
EXHIBIT 17 - SIGNS:
    Drawing or description of proposed signs for the ski lift and location of each.
EXHIBIT 18 - CERTIFICATION OF TEST RESULTS:
    A. Haul rope
    B. Counterweight rope
   

C. Backstay cable

    D. Track cable
    E. Concrete
EXHIBIT 19 - MISCELLANEOUS: (Before the final construction permit is issued and prior to load testing and final inspection the following items are required):
    A. Loadings calculated for each station or tower
    B. An as built profile
    C. Certification from a licensed engineer that the plans and specifications prepared for the ski lift are in accordance with ANSI Standard B77.1-1990 and Michigan rules in effect on the date certified. There is no specific Department form provided for this certification. Engineer letterhead or drawing list with accompanying seal attesting to this will be sufficient.
