October 30, 2017 – Commissioner Teri L. Quimby of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission was awarded the 2017 Best Practices Award by the National Association of Licensing Compliance Professionals (NALCP) at the group’s annual conference in San Diego, California. The award was presented for extraordinary innovation, dedication and leadership.

“I am honored to receive this award and am committed to keeping compelling state interests in mind, such as preventing sales to minors and intoxicated individuals, protection of consumers, and collection of state taxes,” said Quimby. “I am firmly committed to trying to get to positive resolution of an issue whenever possible.”

Appointed in 2011 by Gov. Rick Snyder, Quimby is one of three commissioners with responsibility for administering the provisions of the Michigan Liquor Control Code relating to licensing, purchasing, enforcement, merchandising, and distribution of alcoholic beverages.

As a graduate of Michigan State University's James Madison College and Western Michigan University's Cooley Law School, Quimby has an extensive background in state and local government, has acquired considerable regulatory experience in environmental, utility, commerce issues, and alcoholic beverage issues, and has been licensed to practice law in Michigan and Illinois for over 25 years.

NALCP is a non-profit organization comprised of in-house hospitality licensing and compliance professionals specializing in on and off premises retail liquor licensing. Formed in 2006, NALCP is the first and only organization of its kind to provide services, support and networking on behalf of the hospitality industry's in-house liquor licensing professionals. NALCP members include licensing professionals from various industries including restaurants, entertainment venues, hotels, grocery and other retail services.
