LANSING, MI – As Michigan’s ski season kicks off, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) reminds skiers to prioritize safety by checking for current inspection stickers on ski lifts across the state. These stickers verify that lifts have undergone inspections and meet Michigan’s safety standards.
Ski lift inspections are conducted annually by LARA’s Bureau of Construction Codes to ensure that all devices comply with state regulations and safety protocols. Ensuring ski lift safety is essential for a fun and secure experience on the slopes.
What Skiers Should Know:
- Look for the Sticker: Before using any ski lift, check for a current inspection sticker. It should be clearly displayed on the lift. Due to Michigan’s inspection cycle, skiers may see one of two versions – both indicate the lift has been inspected and approved.

- Safety First: LARA inspectors evaluate various aspects of the lift, including mechanical operations, safety features, and the overall condition.
- Report Concerns: If a lift does not display a current inspection sticker or appears unsafe, notify ski resort management immediately.
“Safety is our top priority,” said LARA Director Marlon I. Brown. “We encourage all skiers to take a moment to check for the inspection sticker and ensure they are using lifts that are safe and properly maintained.”
As you hit the slopes this winter, remember to ski responsibly and enjoy the beauty of Michigan’s winter season. For more information on ski lift safety and inspections, visit the Ski-Amusement Section at LARA.
