MRS helps customer secure accommodations to keep employment

January 27, 2026

Janelle began her journey with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) when she was referred by her case worker. She had not worked in at least three years and needed support finding a new job.

As a single mother, Janelle wanted to provide a quality life for her children. Her positive attitude and great communication skills set her apart, but Janelle needed guidance on how to advocate for herself in the workplace.

While working with MRS, Janelle landed a job as a customer service representative at T-Mobile. MRS supported her by providing assistive technology during her training and working with a vendor to assess her workplace for additional accommodations. Janelle then submitted the required medical documentation alongside her accommodation request to HR.

Thanks to support from MRS, Janelle was able to get a work schedule that allowed her to keep her doctors’ appointments and attend her weekly therapeutic sessions. T-Mobile also provided Janelle with the recommended ergonomic mat and stool while MRS provided her with Bluetooth headphones to facilitate her work duties.

“Thank you for your personal guidance, for taking the time to speak with me, and for just listening even when you didn’t have to,” shared Janelle. “Your kind words have meant a lot. I’m also thankful for the support I received for my ergonomic tools and workstation setup from MRS. I truly appreciate you speaking on my behalf, standing up for me and helping me get what I needed to make my job more comfortable.”

Janelle’s journey is a testament to a supportive team and the courage to speak up and advocate for oneself. Her story is an inspiration to believe that with the right support system, any challenge can be turned into a life-changing opportunity.
