From Marine to Registered Electrician Apprentice
September 16, 2025
Andrew is no stranger to dedication and hard work. After serving five years in the U.S. Marine Corps, he was ready to transition into a career that offered a clear path forward. He found that path not in a traditional college degree, but in the skilled trades Registered Apprenticeship, and is now a registered apprentice Electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 58.
After leaving the Marines in 2023, Andrew was determined to find a career with real growth potential. A friend at the VA introduced him to Helmets to Hardhats (H2H), a program that helps military veterans transition into skilled trade careers. For Andrew, it was the perfect fit.
“The H2H program was a seamless transition, and I’m thankful for the opportunity,” he says.
Andrew's military background gave him the mechanical aptitude to excel in his new role. He’s now on track to become a Journeyman Wireman, with ambitions of one day becoming a foreman. His story is a powerful example of how the skills learned in the military can translate directly into a successful civilian career.
"The trades are in high demand. Save your GI Bill for when you're older,” suggests Andrew to other veterans. “You can make just as much—if not more—in a trade as with a four-year degree. Invest in yourself, and you'll never go wrong."
