Clean Vessel

  • Program Objective:

    To provide new or upgraded pumpout stations and waste reception facilities to safely dispose of recreational boater sewage.

    Criteria:

    Approval based on the type of marine sewage disposal facility proposed, geographic location, number of boats served and cost.

    Eligibility:

    Grants are provided to both private and public boating facilities as long as they are open to the public. Eligible projects primarily include dump stations, additional pumpouts at large boating facilities, pump outs for mooring facilities with a minimum of 15 slips, and upgrading of older pumpout systems.

    Application Process:

    • The following application packet must be submitted:
      • Application Form
      • Three written bids on cost of equipment, and one bid for minor electrical/plumbing.
      • Pictures of project area where pumpout is to be installed and current equipment.
      • Additional information may be requested.
    • The application form and other documents will be forwarded to the Department of Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for their acceptance and approval.
    • Upon federal approval, a grant agreement between the State of Michigan and marina will be signed reflecting 75% of the total costs assumed by the CVA grant and 25% of remaining costs assumed by marina. Project activity may begin.
