Safety certificate

Recreational safety certificate requests are only processed online through eLicense.

If you previously completed a Michigan hunter, bow, marine, ORV, snowmobile or trapper education safety course and need your certificate number or a copy/replacement of your safety certificate, you can obtain it through eLicense.

Certificate numbers are not used or required in Michigan; however, they may be required in other states.

Certificate information cannot be provided via phone because it contains personal information.

To obtain your certificate number or request a copy/replacement safety certificate:

  1. Go to: mdnr-elicense.com
    • Click the button that says, "Purchase a license, permit, and application, or reprint your license."
    • First time eLicense users will need to create an eLicense account (username and password) by clicking on “Sign up today” to access their safety certificates.
  2. After logging in, go to the “Certifications” tab to view any safety certificates you have earned.
    • If you do not see your certificate(s) and it has been more than seven days since you completed the course, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Certificate Help.” You will be notified by email within 7-10 business days of your request. If you do not receive a response within that time, call 517-512-3360, available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. EST.
  3. Select "Reprint" next to the certificate(s) you need a certificate number or a copy/replacement of, and click "Submit." Your certificate(s) will be emailed as one attachment to the address associated with your eLicense account. The certificate number can be found on the email attachment.
