  • About the Board

    The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board’s primary function is to submit to the Legislature a priority list of lands recommended for acquisition and/or development through the Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant Program, which supports development and improvement of public outdoor recreation opportunities across the state. The board also provides guidance to the DNR staff responsible for evaluating grant applications, making project recommendations and administering projects funded by the grant program.

    Grants pending legislative action:
    Each year, after the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board makes its recommendations at its December board meeting, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources drafts and provides a supplemental request to fund the recommendations to the State Budget Office, which then submits all the supplemental requests to the Michigan Legislature for consideration and action. When the bill is formally sponsored and introduced in the Michigan Legislature, updated information and guidance will be provided here to help you track the progress through its stages of approval.

Requests for public comment can be made by filling out the public comment card form. Return the completed form to DNR-Grants@Michigan.gov. Requests received five business days in advance of the meeting date will get five minutes under the public comment agenda item. Requests received less than five business days prior to the meeting date will get three minutes under the public comment agenda item.
