The Wildlife Division hires many short-term employees in the spring and summer and fall and winter months to work at various locations throughout the state, including DNR field offices, customer service centers and state game areas. Seasonal staff help in several areas such as:
- Spring and summer
- Assisting with wildlife habitat maintenance and improvement —may include cutting clearings and adjusting water levels.
- Mowing, landscaping and facility maintenance duties.
- Handling wildlife surveys, nuisance animal control, and equipment operation and maintenance.
- Fall
- Assisting with chronic wasting disease surveillance and collecting bio data for the deer season.
- Pre-registering waterfowl hunters and conducting drawings for waterfowl hunting areas.
- Entering database information and assisting hunters with questions.
Job titles and pay
Non-Career Wildlife Assistants
- paid $19.78 an hour
- may work up to 719 hours in a calendar year
- must be 18 and older
- must be willing to work weekends and evenings
- required to pass a pre-employment drug test
Non-Career State Worker 4
- paid $15-16 an hour
- may work up to 1040 hours in a calendar year
- must be 18 and older
- must be willing to work weekends and evenings
- required to pass a pre-employment drug test

- Northeast Lower Peninsula: Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Alpena, Alcona, Oscoda, Crawford, Otsego, Montmorency
