Volunteer host opportunities

Be a host at a campground, harbor or lighthouse! In exchange for volunteer service such as answering questions, planning activities, giving tours and light maintenance duties, you can stay for free at some of our most desired locations!

Campground hosts

For anyone who loves spending time in Michigan state parks and rustic state forest campgrounds, serving as a campground just might be the perfect gig. Camping fees are waived.

Harbor hosts

We're seeking volunteers to serve as harbor hosts DeTour, Presque Isle, Straits and Tawas state harbors harbors! In exchange, harbor slip fees are waived.

Lighthouse keepers

The Tawas Point Lighthouse Keeper Program has been suspended for 2023, but is expected to return in 2024. The lighthouse will be temporarily closed while the tower of the almost 150-year-old Tawas Point Lighthouse is restored.

Hartwick Pines Memorial Building

Hartwick Pines Memorial Building hosts

Hartwick Pines State Park, located just northeast of Grayling, is seeking volunteer hosts for the historic Memorial Building. In exchange for free camping, volunteers present programs and lead tours.
