Island Lake Recreation Area - Woody Shrubs Workday
Island Lake Recreation Area - Woody Shrubs Workday
Island Lake Recreation Area holds the largest restorable complex of oak barrens known in Michigan and is home to 10 different threatened/special-concern species! Join us in tending to an ecologically rich prairie remnant at Island Lake by cutting and treating encroaching woody plants.
What to Wear and Bring: Volunteers will be asked to work in an area with tall vegetation and uneven footing. Please dress for outdoor work, wearing long pants, long-sleeve shirt, work boots, and sun protection. Bring layers to dress for the weather. For wetland sites, waterproof boots are recommended. Bring water, a snack, and any medication you might need. To prevent the spread of invasive species, ensure all gear is free of mud and seeds. Work gloves, eye protection, and hand tools are provided.
