Help create a roadmap for future planning at Seven Lakes State Park; online survey available through June 30

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is seeking public input on a new general management plan for Seven Lakes State Park, located near Fenton in southeast Michigan. The plan will serve as a long-term roadmap for the park's continued use and enjoyment.

Visitors, community members, stakeholders and others interested in sharing their opinions, ideas and experiences are encouraged to participate in an online survey, available through June 30. Links to both the online survey and the project website are available at Michigan.gov/SevenLakes.

The DNR also will host a public meeting this fall (date and time to be announced), providing opportunities for people to review and provide comment on the new draft plan for the park.

The DNR uses general management plans to define a long-range planning and management strategy that protects a park's natural and cultural resources, while also addressing recreation and educational needs and opportunities.

"Public input is the cornerstone of shaping future plans for state parks," said Matt Lincoln, DNR Parks and Recreation Division land specialist. "The valuable information we gather from stakeholders, the community and visitors will directly inform the draft general management plan."

Situated in northwestern Oakland County, Seven Lakes State Park spans 1,434 acres, featuring more than 230 acres of lakes popular with anglers, paddlers and beachgoers. The park offers a modern campground, two boating access sites and trails open to hiking and mountain biking. The park’s day-use area offers picnic tables and grills, picnic shelters and modern restrooms. Seven Lakes plays a vital role in protecting important wildlife habitat that supports a variety of species, including the federally threatened eastern massasauga rattlesnake.

Additional information on the DNR’s general management planning process is available at Michigan.gov/ParkManagementPlans.
