DNR to briefly close Cheboygan Lock and Dam for repairs Aug. 5 and 6

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will implement a temporary closure of the Cheboygan Lock and Dam next week to conduct essential underwater repairs.

For the safety of workers, boat passage is unavailable during the following periods:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 5, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 6, 8 a.m. to noon.

This time-sensitive project requires installing cylinders to achieve the necessary lock-filling rate and securing gate seals to prevent damage or navigation hazards.

The Cheboygan Lock and Dam, located in the city of Cheboygan in Cheboygan County, provides boaters passage between the Cheboygan River and Lake Huron.

The DNR advises all boaters to plan accordingly for these brief closures.
