Temporary closure of Cheboygan Lock and Dam due to unexpected issue
August 28, 2025
Due to an unexpected issue, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has temporarily closed the Cheboygan Lock and Dam, located in the city of Cheboygan, Cheboygan County, until further notice.
Contractors were on-site this morning; however, a timeline for repairs is not yet available.
"A missing sill plate on a downstream miter gate is preventing operation," said Richard Hill, district supervisor for the DNR Parks and Recreation Division. "We are hoping to get the issue resolved quickly."
For the most up-to-date information on the closure, visit Michigan.gov/DNRClosures or call the Cheboygan Field Office at 231-627-9011.
