Join the Michigan Department of Natural Resources at a virtual public meeting 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, to learn about and share feedback on a new draft general management plan for Interlochen State Park in Grand Traverse County.
At the meeting, DNR staff will present an overview of the draft plan, proposed park improvements and the planning process, followed by an opportunity for people to ask questions and provide comment. Advance meeting registration is required.
For those unable to attend, the meeting will be recorded and posted online approximately one week after the event. An interactive public input survey is also available through Aug. 23 for people to provide feedback.
The DNR uses general management plans to define a long-range planning and management strategy that protects the resources of a park while addressing recreation and education needs and opportunities.
"Last January and February, we invited input from visitors, community members and stakeholders — really, anyone who has an interest in the future of Interlochen State Park — through an online survey," said Debbie Jensen, park management plan administrator with the DNR Parks and Recreation Division. "That valuable feedback, along with input from park staff, helped shape the draft plan that will be presented at the Aug. 5 public meeting."

Nestled between the shores of Duck and Green lakes, Interlochen State Park offers both modern and rustic camping, boating, paddling, fishing, swimming and much more. The park was acquired by the state in 1917 and established as a state park in 1919. Some of the large, old-growth red and white pine trees, for which the park was originally protected, remain throughout the park. The world-renowned Interlochen Center for the Arts is located just across the northern boundary, offering a year-round calendar of concerts and events.
