Hayes State Park
Hayes State Park
The DNR is in the process of developing a new general management plan for W. J. Hayes State Park, primarily located in Lenawee County. The process typically takes one year to complete and is in the beginning stages. The project is facilitated by Beckett & Raeder Inc., of Ann Arbor. Public and stakeholder input will be a critical part of the process.
A park's general management plan defines a long-range (10- to 20-year) planning and management strategy to protect and preserve the site’s natural and cultural resources and provide access to land- and water-based public recreation and educational opportunities.
Public input
Thank you to everyone who completed our online survey. The DNR is now evaluating this feedback to ensure the draft management plan reflects the community's insights and priorities. The DNR will also host a public meeting this summer, providing opportunities for people to review and provide comment on the new draft plan for the park.
About the park
W.J. Hayes State Park, one of Michigan’s oldest state parks, is set along Wamplers and Round lakes in the scenic Irish Hills. This region is celebrated for its lush, rolling landscapes and vibrant natural beauty. With modern camping, tiny houses, mini cabins, trails, picnic areas and premium lake access – including a buoyed swimming area, two boating access sites and a fishing pier – the park serves as a premier destination for locals and tourists, particularly during the summer season.
