Join us at the Upper Peninsula Pocket Park in Escanaba for a full-day Becoming an Outdoors Woman program!
This hands-on event is designed to help women build confidence and skills in a variety of outdoor activities. Participants will have the opportunity to explore:
- Spin rod fishing.
- Archery for both sport and hunting.
- Firearm safety and pellet gun target practice.
- Dutch oven and outdoor cooking techniques.
Whether you're a beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, this fun and supportive environment is the perfect place to connect with nature and other outdoor enthusiasts!
The cost is $20. All equipment will be provided.
To register, go to Michigan.gov/DNRLicenses and click on the "Purchase a license" button. Sign in (using either a username and password or your ID and birthdate), and find the class under the Becoming an Outdoors Woman tab.
A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks. To make a camping reservation, visit MIDNRReservations.com or call 1-800-447-2757.

Located off U.S. 2, within the U.P. State Fairgrounds, the Pocket Park is open all summer and is free to enter.
The park features a fishing pond that is stocked with bluegill for catch-and-release fishing, archery and pellet gun ranges, a fire tower, wildflower gardens and an indoor classroom space. Trained staff offer introductory programs on how to shoot a compound bow and pellet gun safely and accurately at our designated shooting ranges.
Pocket Park education staff offer free programs for school groups, scouts, youth organizations and families to learn how to shoot or fish. Spring school field trips begin mid-May. Public programs take place Memorial Day through Labor Day and include archery, pellet guns, fishing, photography, mushroom ID and more.
