Description of the area
Portage Marsh State Wildlife Management Area comprises 280 acres in Delta County. On the shores of Lake Michigan, Portage Marsh is an important coastal wetland. Near downtown Escanaba, Portage Marsh includes a long narrow peninsula that provides a protected area for wetland wildlife including ducks, mergansers, herons, gulls and more. A hiking trail runs along the peninsula for hikers, hunters and birdwatchers.
