Large-Scale Photovoltaic Projects

A project is integral to the system owned and operated by an electric light and power utility in rendering its duly authorized service under MCL 339.5737(3)(d) if it meets the following conditions:

  • The project is a large-scale solar photovoltaic project as defined by the Part 8. Michigan Electrical Code, R 408.30801 to 408.30880.
  • The project is installed independent of any other structure.
  • The party performing the installation utilizes trained personnel. The training must include the skills and knowledge related to the construction of the equipment and systems being installed, including safety training to recognize and avoid any hazards.
  • The project must be accessible only to authorized personnel.
  • The party responsible for the installation bears responsibility for ensuring the project is installed in compliance with the applicable provisions of Part 8. Michigan Electrical Code, R 408.30801 to 408.30880.
  • The exemption applies only to the scope of work indicated in Section 737(3)(d) of the act, MCL 339.5737(3)(d).
