  • I requested alarms, now what?
    • Once alarms are requested, there are several options on getting alarms.
    • Alarms are at the warehouse in Lansing. Please see Warehouse Pick Up Instructions.
    • If the warehouse staff or any BFS employee is traveling near you, they will deliver.
    • Any neighboring Departments that are traveling to Lansing can also pick up your alarms for you.
  • Do I need an appointment for the Warehouse to pick up Alarms?
    • YES!!!!! The warehouse staff come in each morning and then head out to work around the state. If you have a scheduled appointment, they will inform you where to pick up your alarms.
    • DO NOT just show up unannounced! No one will be there to help you.
  • My password does not work
    • Your password does not work because your account is not activated. You must email LARA-miprevention@michigan.gov how many alarms you picked up and they will activate your account.
    • Or you’re out of alarms/inventory and your account automatically deactivates.
  • I cannot find the MI Prevention APP?
    • The app is WEBBASED and can only be found with this QR Code:

  • Can I get a list of all the alarms my Fire Department has installed?
  • Can Alarms be handed out to residents?
    • NO, alarms MUST be entered into our app installation form. This is how we secure funding for more alarms.
  • We have poor internet or poor cell service; the app does not work for us.
    • You can still be a part of MI Prevention. We have a PDF form available for these Fire Departments, that you can utilize the PDF form in the field and then when you get back to the fire station, enter the form into the MI Prevention installation form system. (We know this is more work, however, this allows us both to be part of the process.)
  • I am interested in the MI Prevention Program, what do you offer and how do I get

    involved?

  • I am interested in being on the Newsletter email list.
  • Does MI Prevention attend open houses or do speaking events?
    • YES, however, this needs to be scheduled and if we can make it work, we will do our best to attend your events.
    • We are also available to speak about CRR and MI Prevention at your meetings, conferences, and trainings.
    • Follow MI Prevention and Gov Delivery for Meetings, Events, CRR, DATA and other classes that we offer throughout the year.
  • If I enter in the wrong information on an installation, how do I change it?
  • If my inventory counts are wrong on the app, how do I fix it?
  • My inventory profile states I have inventory “Not Accounted for”.
    • Any time you lose alarms that do not get entered in system installation form, or that cannot be accounted for, we keep track of this.
    • After 3 deliveries of alarms with alarms “Not Accounted for”, you no longer are approved for the smoke alarm program.
    • MI Prevention works with you and your department over these hurdles, however, at a certain point of not entering the alarms correctly, we have to part ways.

Our program is successful because you all are installing the alarms into our database!

  • Are there educational classes for elementary schools?
    • Yes, please visit MIPrevention.org under Fire Department resources.
  • We do not have the resources to install alarms in our community, however our

    community NEEDS them.

    • Please contact LARA-miprevention@michigan.gov to discuss how you can create community partnerships. There is always a way!
    • We have taught Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizens, Retiree’s, Habitat for Humanity, CERT Teams, Area on Aging and other organizations to install alarms for your community. It is about creating partnerships in your community!
  • If I live in the UP, do I have to drive to Lansing Warehouse for Alarms?
    • NO! We have two housing stations in the UP to pick up your alarms, please contact LARA-miprevention@michigan.gov for this information.
    • We also send alarms to the UP anytime we have someone driving that way!
