May 21, 2019 - LARA’s Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) has suspended the company residential builder license of Snyder’s Roofing LLC (Eric David Snyder, qualifying officer) in Grand Rapids, and the individual maintenance and alteration contractor license of Eric David Snyder, doing business as Snyder Roofing in Greenville. This action was taken because two other affiliated builder licensees – All American Remodeling, Inc. and Eric David Snyder – were suspended for failure to comply with the conditions of two consent orders issued by the Michigan Board of Residential Builders and Maintenance and Alteration Contractors.

Investigations prompted by two separate complaints from two homeowners against All American Remodeling, Inc. and Eric David Snyder both disclosed violations of Michigan Residential Code:

  • failure to obtain a building permit
  • violations of the Occupational Code
    • failure to provide license information as part of the contract
    • willfully violating the building laws of the State of Michigan

All American Remodeling, Inc. and Eric David Snyder entered into a contract with a homeowner to tear off an existing roof and install a metal roof. An inspection done by a local inspector cited three violations of the Michigan Residential Code:

  • failure to obtain a building permit prior to commencing work
  • failure to install roof covering in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions
  • failure to install flashing in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions.

All American Remodeling, Inc. and Eric David Snyder agreed to a consent order that imposed a $500.00 fine to be paid within 60 days of the effective date of the consent order but failed to comply with the consent order and their licenses were suspended on May 24, 2018.

All American Remodeling, Inc. and Eric David Snyder entered into a contract with another homeowner for construction work including tearing off of their existing roof, installation of a new roof decking and shingles, modification of roof overhangs, and installation of three roof solar panels. All American Remodeling, Inc. and Eric David Snyder failed to include their license information as a part of the contract, failed to obtain a building permit prior to the start of work, and completed the work without obtaining a permit. After eventually obtained a building permit. All American Remodeling, Inc. and Eric David Snyder agreed to a consent order that imposed a $1,000.00 fine and the payment of $1,044.60 in restitution to the City of Grand Rapids, both to be paid within 60 days of the effective date of the consent order but failed to comply with the consent order and their licenses were suspended on May 24, 2018.

Due to the license suspension of All American Remodeling, Inc. and Eric David Snyder, BCC issued a Notice of License Suspension, effective March 25, 2019, regarding all other known builder licenses affiliated with All American Remodeling, Inc. and Eric David Snyder, including the company residential builder license of Snyder’s Roofing LLC, Eric David Snyder, qualifying officer; and the individual maintenance and alteration contractor license of Eric David Snyder d/b/a Snyder Roofing, notifying them of the suspension of their licenses and that any residential building activity requiring a license conducted on or after the date of suspension is unlicensed activity in violation of the Michigan Occupational Code.

Residential builders and maintenance and alteration contractors, electricians, plumbers and mechanical contractors are licensed by LARA’s Bureau of Construction Codes and must have a license that corresponds with the work to be done. Before entering into a building or renovation project, Michigan consumers are encouraged to verify license information by going to: https://www.lara.michigan.gov/colaLicVerify/.
