MI Dept of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Participates in National Coordinated Enforcement Effort

LANSING, MI – The Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) proudly partnered with the National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA) in a nationally coordinated enforcement effort from October 14 - 25, 2024. This initiative brought together NASCLA State Members from across the country to ensure compliance with contractor licensing laws.

Through working with NASCLA, BCC set out to protect consumers, promote fair competition in the construction industry, and hold unlicensed contractors accountable. These efforts highlight the importance of hiring licensed professionals and reinforce our commitment to public safety and the integrity of our local economy. By the numbers, our partnership during the enforcement effort helped identify:

  • 56 total administrative actions, including multiple for four different licensees.
  • 102 total penalties, including suspensions, revocations, fines, and restitution.
  • 8 different types of violations across actions.

"The Michigan Bureau of Construction Codes looks forward to continuing to work to hold bad actors accountable to ensure that we are protecting people and promoting businesses through continued enforcement efforts," said Andrew Brisbo, the director of the Bureau of Construction Codes.

BCC joined the national coordinated enforcement effort focused on elevating the regulatory agency’s presence in the community and nationally. The goal was to come together in a united partnership to promote both consumer and public protection through the licensing of contractors and tradespeople. The enforcement effort involved state public information departments, investigative departments, executive directors/officers and the public media.
