Are you an enthusiastic camper ready to give back? We're seeking hosts to volunteer at Michigan state parks and rustic forest campgrounds. In exchange for your commitment of 30 hours of service per week, you'll receive complimentary camping for the duration of your stay. Duties includewelcoming campers, answering their questions, organizing activities and assisting with light maintenance tasks. The Campground Host Policy outlines additional duties and expectations.
The selection process
Campground hosts are carefully screened and interviewed by park managers. We select candidates who demonstrate wxcellent availability, familiarity with camping and/or state parks and valuable special skills and local area knowledge.
Required training
All new campground hosts are required to complete a two-day training session within their first two years of service. The training typically takes place in June at the Ralph A. MacMullan Center.
Eligibility
- Both individuals and couples may apply.
- Must be 18 or older and provide your own camping equipment, food and other personal items.
- Ability to work at least five days a week, including weekends and holidays (totaling 30 hours per week).
- Must be able to volunteer for a minimum of 30 days (positions available April through October).
- Must pass a background check.
- Applicants may not be DNR employees.
How to apply
Start by reviewing the campground host vacancy report. Once you have identified an opening, complete the application and liability waiver. Then, mail or email both documents to the address provided for that specific park.
