9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days (or until you finish lacing your snowshoes)
Instructors will teach participants, step by step, how to lace the modified bear paw-style, wooden-framed snowshoes (10 by 36 inches). Tubular nylon will be used for the lacing. The snowshoe kit comes with a set of “Super A” bindings. Participants will have to varnish their snowshoes with a spar urethane/marine varnish at a later time, preferably in a well-ventilated location.
There will be a lunch break at noon, and participants may either bring their own food or go into downtown Grayling to buy lunch.
Cost for the class is $195.
To register for this class, go to Michigan.gov/DNRLicenses and click on the "Purchase a license" button. Sign in (using either a username and password or your ID and birthdate), and find the class under the Outdoor Skills Academy tab. Make sure you choose “2026 Snowshoe Building Workshop, 2/21-22, Grayling."
Please note: Cancellations must be made no later than Feb. 2.

The Hartwick Pines Visitor Center, at Hartwick Pines State Park, draws thousands of visitors, campers and school children each year to see one of Michigan's last stands of majestic old-growth pine forest. Miles of trails offer hikers of all ages and abilities the chance to explore the diverse wildlife and forest landscapes. The year-round, fully accessible visitor center is a gateway to the towering pine forest and the Hartwick Pines Logging Museum. The exhibit hall inside the visitor center explores Michigan's forests on a journey through time beginning with the Ice Age.
The center also has an auditorium that holds 105 guests and a classroom that holds up to 35 guests. Call the Hartwick Pines Visitor Center for reservations 989-348-2537.
