Fish Point State Wildlife Area - Spring Birding Tour
Join us for a spring birding tour along the coastal wetlands of Fish Point State Wildlife Area on Saginaw Bay! We’ll look for Tundra swans, ducks, shorebirds, songbirds and raptors of the emergent and coastal marshes.
We’ll meet up at the Fish Point Field Office and then tour the area. Led by DNR staff, we’ll walk the dikes to reach optimal viewing spots.
This is a free event, and entry to Fish Point State Wildlife Area is also free. This area is funded by hunting licenses and managed for wildlife habitat.
Fish Point is part of the Saginaw Bay Audubon Important Bird Area and is one of Michigan’s premier Wetland Wonders, where 2,477 acres of wetlands are stewarded to provide exceptional habitat for migrating birds.
Know before you go:
- Dress for the weather – rain or shine – and wear boots or sturdy shoes.
- Participants should be prepared to navigate muddy, uneven ground and gravel-covered dikes. Please be aware that the trails are not considered accessible under Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines.
- Restrooms are NOT available onsite.
- Trash receptables are available at the field office.
- Bring binoculars or spotting scopes if you have them.
- For help identifying birds, download one or more free smartphone apps: Merlin Bird ID, eBird, iNaturalist or Audubon Bird Guide.
