Dark Sky Night at Negwegon State Park
Join the Friends of Negwegon State Park, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, for an evening of astronomy, stargazing, and dark sky education along the Lake Huron shoreline. The program will feature presentations by experienced astronomy educators, telescope viewing, guided constellation and laser sky tours, and discussions about light pollution, dark sky preservation, and astronomy opportunities in Northeast Michigan. Family-friendly educational activities and a bonfire on the beach will also be offered. Weather permitting, participants may have opportunities to observe Saturn, Sculptor Galaxy, the Winter Hexagon, constellations, and other deep sky objects.
Registration is required. Participants should register online and claim their free tickets through the Friends of Negwegon State Park. During registration, attendees may share any accessibility needs so event organizers can make accommodations when possible. The event area is accessed by approximately 80 yards of gravel path followed by 80 yards of sandy dune trail.
This is a family-friendly event. Please bring a camp chair or blanket for seating and dress warmly for cooler evening temperatures along Lake Huron. A flashlight with a red lens is recommended to help preserve night vision, and bug repellent is also suggested. Most importantly, bring your curiosity and enjoy an evening under the stars!
