For the past several years, the DNR has been working hand in hand with the Shoreline Cycling Club and Michigan’s Edge Mountain Biking Association to create a pilot program to determine that fat-tire biking was feasible and of interest to riders. Because of the success in these initial trials, the Michigan DNR has designated this new fat-biking opportunity.

The DNR also offers a shoreline horseback riding season at Silver Lake State Park Nov. 1-30 (each year).

  • A valid Recreation Passport required on all vehicles entering the parking lot.
  • Open riding in the boundaries of the ORV area is allowed.
  • Alcohol is prohibited.
  • No drinking water is available. Please plan accordingly.
  • Vault toilets (or outhouses) are located in the parking lot and in the dunes.
  • There is limited refuse service provided for trash.
  • Gates will open every day regardless of conditions and it is the visitor’s discretion to enter the dunes.
