West Michigan Psychologist Summarily Suspended for Health Care Fraud

February 6, 2018 – The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) served an order summarily suspending the psychology license of Sturgis psychologist George Edwin Compton Jr.

On November 21, 2017, Compton was convicted of felonious health care fraud and sentenced to serve 28 months in prison by the United States Court, Western District of Michigan.

The Michigan Public Health Code requires the summary suspension of a license when a licensee is convicted of a felony.

From January 2013 through June 2016, Compton defrauded multiple healthcare benefit programs for over $800,000 by billing for psychological services that he never provided. Compton created false treatment records for patient records to make it appear as if he provided therapeutic services.

An order of summary suspension is a temporary measure to protect the public and not a final determination that a licensee has violated the Public Health Code.
