April 11, 2019 – The Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) served an order summarily suspending the physician’s assistant license of Kellie Patrice Distefano for fraudulent prescriptions written to herself and her family members.
LARA also served Distefano with an accompanying administrative complaint that alleges the nature of the fraudulent behavior.
The administrative complaint alleges that Distefano prescribed controlled substances to herself and family members on stolen prescription pads.
From May 2017 to July 2018, Distefano fraudulently prescribed herself the following controlled substances: hydrocodone-acetaminophen, dextroamphetamine-amphetamine, and lorazepam.
Additionally, from September 2017 to July 2018, Distefano fraudulently prescribed dextroamphetamine-amphetamine to her family members.
The Michigan Public Health Code provides for summary suspension of licenses when the public health, safety, or welfare requires emergency action.
An order of summary suspension is a temporary measure to protect the public and not a final determination that a licensee has violated the Public Health Code.
LARA’s investigation into Distefano was propelled by an allegation submitted to the department. LARA encourages all concerned residents, patients, parents and peers to file complaints against licensed health professionals who may allegedly be risking public health, safety or welfare.
