MiUI Minute: Issue 37

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new unemployment tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI Tax functions went live in February 2026, and Benefits Services functions are scheduled to go live on November 9, 2026.

In this issue of the MiUI Minute, we’re providing an important reminder that Benefit Services-related roles can be assigned now in MiUI. Find past editions of the MiUI Minute at MiUI University.

TPA and User Roles in MiUI

Assigning Benefits-Related Roles in MiUI

In MiUI, employers can authorize third-party administrators (TPAs) and members of their organization (employer users) to view information or take actions on their account based on role assignments.

When MiUI launches benefits-related functionality later this year, two additional roles will become active: Edit Claims Forms Mailing and Edit Benefit Charges

  • Edit Claims Forms Mailing allows users the ability to submit and update separation information.
  • Edit Benefit Charges allows users to protest charges assessed against the employers’ accounts and view benefit charges online.

These two roles can be assigned now but will not be functional until the Benefits Go Live on Nov. 9. A view-only version of the Benefit Charges role is also available. Assigning the roles today will put employers a step ahead when the full system is live. This is also important to complete if an employer has separate TPAs for tax and benefits functions.

While some TPAs were automatically provided roles when MiUI launched for Tax functions, they may not have been given the Edit Claims Form Mailing or Edit Benefit Charges roles. Employers and TPAs are encouraged to review their role assignments in MiUI and make updates as needed, as soon as possible.

For instructions on how to add a new TPA with benefits roles, employers can use the Add a New TPA with Benefit Roles job aid. Employers can modify role assignments for their TPAs using the process outlined in the Modify Existing TPA Roles job aid and modify role assignments for employer users using the process outlined in pages 106-108 of the MiUI Toolkit.

If you are a TPA who needs one of these role assignments, but your employer has not yet activated their MiUI account, please encourage them to do so. Visit the Communication Resources for TPAs on MiUI University for templates to help you reach out to your clients.
