MiUI Minute: Issue 38

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new unemployment tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI Tax functions went live in February 2026, and Benefits Services functions are scheduled to go live on November 9, 2026.

In this issue of the MiUI Minute, we are providing an overview of fact finding and the State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) in MiUI. Find past editions of the MiUI Minute at MiUI University.

Fact Finding and SIDES in MiUI

What is Fact Finding?

Fact finding is a questionnaire sent by UIA to employers and workers requesting additional information regarding a claim.

Where to find fact finding in MiUI:

Employers will receive an email indicating they have a correspondence to fill out and instructing them to go to their MiUI Inbox. The location of the Inbox menu item in the MiUI navigation panel is highlighted below:

What is SIDES?

SIDES is a secure, web-based system that lets employers and third-party administrators (TPAs) electronically respond to unemployment insurance claims requests from state workforce agencies.

SIDES in MiUI

To update SIDES preferences in MiUI:
  • Employers can select Account Maintenance from the left navigation.
  • Then, choose SIDES Registration and Maintenance
    • ESIDES is for small businesses with a singular SIDES log in, while SIDES supports larger businesses and TPAs that require many users have access to the SIDES portal.
    • A screenshot of the MiUI left navigation screen. Account Maintenance is highlighted with a #1. Next "SIDES Registration and Maintenance" and "ESIDES Registration and Maintenance" is highlighted with a #2.
  • Employers and TPAs can then create a PIN and use it to log into SIDES.
  • There will no longer be a single sign-on with SIDES. Employers and TPAs will need to log into SIDES separately from MiUI.
Employers and TPAs whose MiWAM accounts are already registered with SIDES will have their SIDES preferences converted to MiUI.
  • If an employer or TPA is registered with SIDES and has a MiWAM account, they will see the “Yes” option and Broker ID or PIN number prepopulated on the SIDES screen in MiUI when Benefits Services functions go live in November.
  • There will be an option to select “No” to indicate not being registered to SIDES. This will update MiUI with the change—however, it does not actually deregister a user from the SIDES application.
  • Employers/TPAs who indicate they are not registered for SIDES will continue to receive fact finding in MiUI.
Employers represented by a TPA without SIDES can assign them the Edit Claims Form Mailing or Edit Benefit Charges roles in MiUI. For assistance with this process, reference the following job aid:
