Unemployment Update #7

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new unemployment tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI is being launched in two parts, with Tax functions now live, and Benefits functions scheduled to be available starting November 9.

In this issue of the MiUI Unemployment Update, we’re sharing details about how weekly certifications and benefits payments will take place within MiUI.

Weekly Certifications and Benefits Payments in MiUI

Historically, workers receiving unemployment benefits have completed certifications and received benefits payments on a bi-weekly basis. After MiUI for benefits launches on November 9, 2026, certifications will be completed weekly and benefits will be paid weekly. 

Here’s what you need to know:

• You can certify online anytime day or night, Sunday through Saturday.
• Workers should carefully review their certifications before submission, as responses cannot be edited afterwards. Reach out to UIA if corrections need to be made to a submission.
• Late certifications can still be submitted, but may impact benefit payments. If a certification is more than two weeks late, the claim will be marked inactive. To reopen the claim, you will need to access the Reopen Claim menu option from the left navigation.
• Available certification weeks will appear in MiUI under the Weekly Certification tile on the Claimant Homepage. 
• Benefits payments can be received by direct deposit or a bank-issued debit card.
• If a week of benefits was waived by mistake, workers should contact UIA for assistance.
• Waiving three consecutive weeks will cause a claim to be marked inactive.
