How to Donate
“Thanks to the kindness of Michigan taxpayers, MDARD can help to support the growing needs of shelters around the state.”
- Dr. Nora Wineland, State Veterinarian
For the Animal Welfare Fund to provide grants to registered Michigan animal shelters, contributions to the fund are made during the tax season when generous Michiganders check the fund’s box on Form 4642, Voluntary Contributions Schedule, on their state tax returns.
One hundred percent of the contributions made to the Animal Welfare Fund are used for local projects that enhance and assist with:
- Promoting and increasing spaying and neutering of dogs and cats, especially prior to adoption
- Helping animals find their forever home
- Providing animal anti-cruelty and care training for animal law enforcement agencies
- Improving the public’s knowledge of proper animal care
- Supporting animal shelters with the unreimbursed costs of care for animals involved in legal investigations
