Belle Isle Park vendor application
Option 1: Apply for a one-day vendor permit
This one-day permit allows the applicant to provide services to people who have been issued an event or land use permit. The applicant may not sell to the public.
- Contact event coordinator to obtain application number PR4764:
- Darlisa Terrell at 313-618-2870.
- Complete application (PR4764) and submit it to Belle Isle Park along with the following:
- $50 permit fee made payable to the State of Michigan.
- Insurance certificate listing the “City of Detroit and State of Michigan, its departments, divisions, agencies, offices, commissions, officers, employees and agents” as additional insured with a $1,000,000 aggregate.
- Food truck vendors are required to provide a copy of their food service license or decal.
- If the applicant meets the criteria outlined above, a permit is issued.
NOTE: Over 230 of these permits were issued during the 2025 operating season.
Option 2: Apply to become a pre-approved vendor
This long-term (10-year) permit allows the applicant to provide services to people who have been issued an event or land use permit. The applicant may not sell to the public.
- Complete application PR4764 and submit it to the Park Manager at Belle Isle Park along with the following:
- $500 made payable to the State of Michigan (includes a $50 application fee, $50 review fee and $400 use) fee for the first year. Each additional year, the vendor chooses to remain in the program costs an annual use fee of $400.
- Insurance certificate listing the “City of Detroit and State of Michigan, its departments, divisions, agencies, offices, commissions, officers, employees and agents” as additional insured with a $1,000,000 aggregate.
- In order to remain on the annual vendor list provided to event permit holders, the vendor must meet annual requirements (payment, insurance). If requirements are not met, the vendor will be removed from the vendor list and prohibited from providing services until they are compliant.
- If the applicant meets the criteria outlined above, a permit is issued.
NOTE: 24 of these permits were in place during the 2025 operating season.
Option 3: Become a concessionaire
Concession contracts, by state law, are competitively bid out every seven years. Contracts are awarded based on a) business experience, b) financial stability and c) the amount to be paid to the State. The Department currently has the following five concession contracts in place:
- Athletic complex: Contract expires Nov. 30, 2029.
- Food trucks and vending machines: Contract expires Nov. 30, 2031.
- To apply to become a food truck vendor under this contract, you must contact StrEATS of Belle Isle at 313-971-8852 or streatsofbelleisle@gmail.com for an application. Applications are approved based on the applicant’s ability to meet the concession contract obligations.
- Golf course: Contract expires Nov. 30, 2028.
- Jet ski rentals: Contract is up for bid: Contract expires Nov. 30, 2031.
- Porta-potty and handwash rentals: Contract expires Nov. 30, 2028.
- Watercraft and bicycle rentals: Contract expires Nov. 30, 2028.
