Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery - May 9, Damsels Fly Fishing Program
Join the Damsels Fly Fishing Program — an all-day, women-only experience — hosted by the Kalamazoo Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited at Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery Visitor Center in Mattawan. Designed to be both educational and fun, this immersive course introduces you to the art and skill of fly fishing in a welcoming, hands-on environment.
Throughout the day, you’ll gain practical, real-world knowledge from experienced instructors as you explore:
- Casting techniques and essential gear
- Knots and fly tying basics
- Aquatic insects and fish behavior
- Fishing etiquette and safety
Participants be on the water fishing by the end of the day, building confidence and skills you can immediately use.
No equipment is required, and your $60 registration fee includes a light breakfast, snacks, lunch, giveaways and even a chance to win a fly rod door prize. As part of the fee, you’ll also receive a one-year Trout Unlimited membership and expert instruction from some of the organization’s top teachers.
To keep the momentum going, participants are invited to FREE follow-up lessons and monthly on-the-water fishing opportunities along the Kalamazoo River in Battle Creek from May through September. These sessions are a great way to continue developing your skills and connect with a growing network of anglers.
Whether you’re completely new to fly fishing or looking to build a strong foundation, this program will help you gain the knowledge and confidence to get out on the water and stay involved.
