Dive into the world of freshwater fishing with this relaxed, hands-on fishing class designed just for beginners. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to craft your very own lures and how to use them to catch fish.
We’ll create a spinner hook, crawler harness and a spinner. These versatile lures are perfect for catching perch, panfish, bass, crappie, walleye and even pike. All supplies, including the use of our fishing rods, are included. If you have your own rod, bring it along. We’ll show you how to rig your new lures right to your own gear. After creating your custom tackle, we’ll head to beautiful Lake Cadillac to put your new skills and homemade lures to the test!
Whether you are brand new to fishing or simply looking for a fun, supportive place to start, this class offers creativity, confidence and plenty of lakeside laughs. Participants must have a valid fishing license to join the fishing portion of the program.
Cost is $20. For ages 16 and up.
To register, go to Michigan.gov/DNRLicenses and click on the "Purchase a license" button. Sign in (using either a username and password or your ID and birthdate), and find the class under the Becoming an Outdoors Woman tab.
Cancellation policy: The cancellation deadline is two weeks before the class. To cancel your registration, please contact our Customer Service help desk line at 800-737-6367. Cancellations made up to two weeks before the class will be completely refunded to the original form of payment. If you cancel after the deadline, no refund will be issued.
A Recreation Passport is required for entry into Mitchell State Park.

The Carl T. Johnson Hunt and Fish Center, located in Mitchell State Park, is named for the founder of the Michigan Conservation Foundation who is a life-long supporter of hunting and fishing. The center is universally accessible.
