MRS helps customer with Fibromuscular Dysplasia get back to work
January 24, 2024
When Heather was diagnosed with Fibromuscular Dysplasia and hearing loss, it threw her world for a loop. As owner and operator of Brooks Innovative Graphics, the diagnosis meant she could no longer operate at full capacity and had to temporarily step away from work for the greater part of a year.
Heather was recently referred to Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) by her local audiologist for help obtaining hearing aids to address her hearing loss.
“Wearing the hearing aids has helped mask the constant noise of tinnitus, which seemed debilitating without them,” said Heather. “Obtaining the hearing aids has greatly impacted my ability to begin to return to operating my business.”
The hearing aids have also helped address Heather’s ability to communicate with clients face to face and over the phone. Now she is working around the physical limitations of her fibromuscular dysplasia, which include constant nerve pain and hand tremors. She is now able to gradually return to creating graphics from her home office like she has since 2000.
“Learning about MRS and all the different ways that MRS assists people is uplifting and of great comfort to help not only with addressing hearing loss in the workplace, but all the many ways MRS helps to get people back to work,” said Heather. “Working with MRS has been a positive experience and I appreciate everything they did to help me get back to the work I love.”
