MRS helps customer find first job at 25
February 18, 2026
When Diamond came to Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) seeking help navigating the world of employment, she was 25 years old and had never officially had a job. Having struggled since her teens due to trauma, she was nervous about pursuing employment on her own.
Given Diamond's lack of work experience and severe anxiety, her MRS counselor determined the best course of action would be to first pursue trial work experience. She had shown some interest in working as a janitor, so her counselor contacted Clearview Building Maintenance, a local cleaning company, to facilitate work experience there.
This experience was the perfect fit for Diamond as it would take place during second shift where she was less likely to work in crowded environments, which had historically triggered her anxiety. Diamond would be responsible for cleaning an office building with oversight from a staff member.
Despite her reservations, Diamond proved to be more than capable and showed up every day with a great attitude, quickly adapting to her responsibilities. Upon completion of her trial work experience, Clearview Building Maintenance was so pleased with her performance they offered Diamond a job! She has continued to excel at her job and hopes to maintain her employment for a long time.
In addition to the trial work experience, Diamond needed help navigating public transportation. With support from her MRS counselor, Diamond secured a pass with the local mass transportation agency and guidance for how she could schedule transportation directly from her home to work and back.
