MDARD Announces 2023 ‘Exporter of the Year’ Application Period Now Open

Michigan companies experiencing international growth encouraged to apply

LANSING – The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is launching its search for the 2023 Michigan 'Ag Exporter of the Year.' Each year, MDARD recognizes a leading food or agriculture exporting business demonstrating success in export growth.

Companies of all sizes are encouraged to apply. Eligibility is limited to Michigan food, agriculture, and forest products producers, manufacturers, or shippers actively pursuing international markets and increasing export sales. Products must be over 50 percent grown, processed, or manufactured in Michigan. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, .

“Michigan’s robust food and agriculture businesses continue to expand the state’s global footprint. Governor Whitmer is committed to taking steps to attract businesses to Michigan while investing in its growth on an international scale as outlined in her executive budget recommendation,” said Acting MDARD Director Kathy Angerer. “Recognizing our successful businesses is critical and winning the Michigan Ag Exporter of the Year Award is a distinguished honor. We want international buyers to know that Michigan is the best place for food and agricultural businesses.”

The Michigan Ag Exporter of the Year award was first awarded in 2006. Previous winners include Citizens Elevator, Kamps Hardwoods, Sklarczyk Seed Farm, Dr. John’s Candies, Bayside Best Beans, Star of the West Milling, Continental Dairy, Connor Sports, Graceland Fruit, Cherry Central, Zeeland Farm Service, Walters Gardens, Honee Bear Canning, Cooperative Elevator Company, and Michigan Apple .
