MDARD Announces Application Period for the Equine Grant Program

Proposals due 5 p.m. on June 30, 2025

LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) and the Michigan Horse Racing Advisory Commission announced today that they will accept applications for the 2025 Equine Grant Program until June 30, 2025.

"The equine industry is an important part of Michigan's diverse agricultural economy,"  said MDARD Director Tim Boring. "Through the Equine Grant Program, MDARD helps advance equine-related programs and research and preserve the agricultural and economic benefits of Michigan s horse racing and breeding industry."

The Equine Grant Program, established by the Horse Racing Law of 1995 and supported by the Horse Racing Advisory Commission, provides a total of up to $125,000 in grant funding annually for:

  • The promotion and marketing of horse racing
  • Equine-related research
  • Equine-related support and aftercare
  • Other equine-related or horse racing programs

To qualify for the Equine Grant Program, entities must have been in business for at least two years, be in good standing with the state and be able to provide financial statements for the previous fiscal year. Program information, application details and submission criteria are available on the MDARD website.

Prospective applicants must email grant proposals to MDARD no later than 5 p.m. ET on Monday, June 30, 2025. Applications for this grant program are subject to a competitive process with review by an evaluation committee. MDARD will issue funding to grant recipients on a cost reimbursement basis.
